Hillsborough County Deputies responded to reports of a woman shot on Pinehurst Drive in Town 'N Country just at approximately 12:03 a.m. on Friday.
Deputies say the shooting appears to be accidental.
There are several people who live in the home -- a great-grandmother, grandmother, daughter, two brothers and four children (ages 17, 15, 13 and 8; the daughter's children).
According to police, one of the teenage children came home with a gun and their mother found the gun and took it away from them. She unloaded the weapon and thought it was empty, but there was still one round in the chamber.
The daughter accidentally fired the gun, striking her mother in the upper body. The grandmother, identified as Carolyn Wright, 52, of Tampa, died at the scene.
After the shooting, one of the teenagers reportedly panicked and picked up the gun and ran down the street where they threw the gun into a storm drain. The gun was recovered by deputies on scene and they are working to determine where the gun came from.
Hillsborough County deputies continue to investigate this incident.
