The Broward County School Board will vote next week on whether to fire Superintendent Robert Runcie.
Board member Lori Alhadeff, whose daughter Alyssa was killed in the Feb. 14, 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, has requested to place the termination of Runcie's employment as an agenda item for a March 5 board meeting.
"The urgency to do this now is because the district is spiraling out of control," Alhadeff said in a statement to NBC 6. "There was no one final straw, it's culmination of failures. Mr. Runcie has demonstrated a history of poor leadership. As board members we need to be accountable to the public. I am bringing it forward regardless if I have five votes or not."

Embattled Runcie has been sharply criticized by parents whose children died in the shooting last year. Critics blame him for the failures involving school security, camera surveillance and discipline procedures following the alleged Parkland shooting
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has hinted that he would like to remove Runcie, but can't do so because he is not an elected official.
Alhadeff has since turned her grief over her daughter's death into action and was elected into the school board last year.
