BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -- A 20-year-old man is being charged with murder after the bodies of his teenage girlfriend and their infant son were found inside a burning Florida apartment building.
The Bradenton Herald reports that Larry Bernard Williams was charged Sunday with first-degree murder for the deaths of 18-year-old Diamond Shelman and 8-month-old Jeremiah Shelman. They were found dead Sunday inside the Manatee County apartment on Florida's Gulf Coast.
Williams told police that "the demon that takes him over" did it, according to WFLA-TV.
The Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Diamond Shelman had injuries that were inconsistent with the fire, which appeared to be arson.
Police say Williams stabbed Shelman and then slit her throat, before spreading gasoline around the apartment and setting it on fire. They say Jeremiah died from smoke inhalation.
The fire had been noticed by a passing firefighter.
