An exhibit November 12 aims to create awareness of the resiliency, strength and beauty of women living with different abilities.

The Bold Beauty Project features women captured by award-winning photographers.  Twenty-five women in South Florida each have a different story to tell.  Each woman in the images has a sensory disability or a physical one, including a spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, visual impairment and more.  The idea is to showcase strength, dignity, beauty and courage of each woman’s spirit, despite any challenges one may face.

Cynthia Fleischman is one of the models participating.  She was hit by a car while riding her motorcycle on I-95 last year, losing her right leg above the knee.  LaQuantis Morton is another model.  She is Director of the Paralyzed Veterans of American Florida Chapter.  The Army veteran sustained a spinal cord injury secondary to a motor vehicle accident about 7 years ago. Kerry Gruson was disabled as a result of strangulation in the 1970s by a man who was suffering severe issues with PTSD.

The photographers have worked for publications such as the New York Times, Smithsonian and National Geographic.  The models and the photographers say the experience changes their lives for the better.

An exhibit at the Bakehouse Art Complex in the Wynwood area of Miami will showcase the portraits, November 12-25, 2016.  Some of the images will be featured in Art Basel.  An opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, November 12 6-9 p.m.

Bold Beauty Project is a non-profit created by Shelly Baer, who was featured in a TEDx talk.
