MAITLAND, Fla. (AP) -- The aunt of Florida state Sen. David Simmons' daughter has been arrested after police say she crashed a motorboat filled with eight people into a dock and seawall in an Orlando suburb.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that 45-year-old Krystyna Vitiello faces a charge of boating under the influence.

Vitiello is the sister of Simmons' ex-wife. She told authorities that she had been driving the boat early Tuesday but that someone else was at the helm when it crashed.

Authorities say at least three people, including Simmons' daughter, had serious injuries from the accident in Maitland. Alicya Simmons suffered a broken femur.

The state senator wasn't on the boat, but the boat is registered to Simmons' company.
