UPDATE: Indian River County said it is lifting the swimming advisory posted August 15, 2019 for Coconut Point at Sebastian Inlet State Park.
EARLIER:
Swimming advisories are in effect for two beaches on the Treasure Coast.
Health officials said samples of beach water collected at Jaycee Park on South Hutchinson Island and Coconut Point at Sebastian Inlet State Park did not meet the water quality standards.
The Florida Department of Health said testing revealed higher than normal levels of enteric bacteria at both beaches.
Officials said swimming is not recommended at either of these locations due to the increased chance of illness.
The health department said enteric bacteria is in the intestinal tract of humans and animals and could come from storm water runoff, pets, wildlife and human sewage.
New samples will be taken at the beaches on Monday. The results are expected to be released on Thursday.
