BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- A St. Lucie County sheriff's deputy has been arrested and charged with three counts of sexual activity with a minor in Broward County.
St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara says 43-year-old Deputy Richard Akeem Henry was arrested by the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the FBI and Broward County Sheriff's Office.
Henry has been employed as a detention deputy since 2013.
"When a member of our agency fails to uphold the law and character expected of our profession, we are saddened and disappointed," Mascara said. "However, we take these situations seriously and police our own to maintain the public's trust and confidence to ensure that only the most qualified wear the badge of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office."
Akeem was arrested in Broward and will be transported to the St. Lucie County Jail next week.
SLCSO says Henry is on unpaid, administrative leave and his Sheriff's Office identification, badge, weapons and uniforms have been confiscated.
