A man accused of robbing a Speedway Gas Station in Port St. Lucie Monday was arrested after his car overheated when he was fleeing the area, according to Port St. Lucie police.
The incident happened at 149 NW Bayshore Blvd.
The suspect, 64-year-old Robert Hickey, armed with a folding pocket knife, stood near the counter and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register when it opened.
According to police, Hickey fled the area in a red and white Ford Bronco.
Police received several calls of a reckless driver and learned that a vehicle matching Hickey's evaded a Fort Pierce police officer and traveled to Interstate 95 southbound.
Port St. Lucie police found Hickey's overheated car parked on the side of the road on I-95 near SW Glatlin Boulevard. Hickey was outside the vehicle when he was detained and transported to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
Police found in his possession a small pocket knife and the amount of cash taken from the gas station.
The suspect was charged with robbery with a weapon. He is being held at the St. Lucie County Jail with a $200,000 bond.
