Port St. Lucie police say a man is under arrest following a violent road rage incident in which he used a club that struck another driver and his vehicle.

Police say the confrontation between the motorists happened Tuesday afternoon at the the intersection of SE Becker and NW Gilson Road.

They say it began after the victim drove around 54-year-old John Ruff of Riviera Beach.

Ruff then then drove around the victim, slammed on his brakes and caused a minor crash, police said.

They said as the other driver got out to check for damage, Ruff approached him and a verbal argument turned physical and Ruff went back to his car and grabbed an object that looked like a wooden club.

Police said witnesses confirmed that Ruff hit the victim's car with it several times, and shoved the club through the driver's side window striking the victim causing minor injuries.

Police arrested Ruff and charged him with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
