PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — A gator that police say was going after pets in a Port St. Lucie neighborhood has been captured.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department posted on Facebook that early on Monday morning, police responded to the Riverland community for reports of an alligator chasing several pets.

Police said an officer was able to capture the 4-foot gator, tape its mouth shut, and relocate it away from the community.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission defines a nuisance gator as one that's at least 4 feet in length, and poses a threat to people, pets, or property.
