1 dead, 2 injured in Fort Pierce crash early Sunday

FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- One person is dead and two were injured in a crash in Fort Pierce early Sunday morning.

St. Lucie County Fire District says the single vehicle crash happened at the intersection of 25th Street and Virginia Avenue shortly after 3 a.m.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two trauma patients were transported by ground to a local trauma facility.

When firefighters arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and the two of the occupants were trapped inside. One person had been pulled from the wreckage by two bystanders.

The Fort Pierce Police Department is investigating the crash.
