ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. — A Fort Pierce man is dead and several other people are injured following a crash last week in St. Lucie County.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the wreck happened at 2:15 p.m. on July 18 at Okeechobee Rd. and Shinn Rd.
Troopers said a 2006 GMC Sierra, driven by 28-year-old David Baier, was traveling southbound on Okeechobee Rd., and a 1979 Chevy C-10 pickup truck was going eastbound.
FHP said Baier failed to see the pickup truck while crossing the road and smashed into it.
The driver of the C-10, 59-year-old Eugene Spells, died in the crash. Two passengers in his vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Troopers said three people in the Sierra had minor injuries, and one suffered serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the events that led up to the collision are under investigation and charges are pending.
