The search for a gunman continues in suburban Boca Raton. The sheriff’s office released pictures of a person of interest in connection to Saturday morning’s shooting outside O’Connor’s Pub which killed Christo Maccius.
A spokesman from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said leads have been coming in all day.
Maccius’s family said looking for revenge is not the answer, and not what Maccius would want. They’re asking the people who care about Maccius to follow his lead.
Maccius lived with the Rubin family once he aged out of foster care. Alison Rubin became like an adoptive mother to him.
As she looks at a picture of Maccius and the whole family, she can’t believe it’s the last time they will all be together.
“He just seemed to fit, be completed on some level,” she said.
Now pictures of the 25-year-old man line the fence outside West Boca Raton Community High School. A memorial brought to life Sunday after a someone shot and killed Maccius Saturday morning.
Maccius’s family doesn't recognize the person of interest in surveillance pictures released by the sheriff’s office. But his dad has a message to anyone who does.
“In Christo's memory, stop fighting. Do something good for somebody instead,” said Steve Rubin.
Maccius graduated from West Boca Raton High School and worked there as a substitute teacher. His fun-loving attitude earned him friends throughout the community.
“His disposition and smile were infectious and people liked being around it,” explained Jack Clutter, who worked with Maccius at West Boca Raton High School.
The community is hurting. Friends created a memorial for Maccius outside the high school.
His parents have one message for the shooter.
“He should turn himself in. He destroyed a young man's life and everybody else's life who is attached to Christo,” said Alison and Steve.
The person of interest sought in the case is between 20- and 30-years-old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches with a thin build and a beard.
PBSO said the man was wearing a dark-colored, long-sleeved shirt, long blue jean shorts, brown boots, a light-colored ball cap, long necklace with a medallion and has gold teeth.
Please call Crimestoppers at 800-458-TIPS (8477) if you can help in the case.
Funeral services for Maccius will be held Thursday at 7pm at Spanish River Church at 2400 Yamato Road in Boca Raton. The burial ceremony will take place Sunday at 1pm at Palm Beach Memorial at 3691 Seacrest Boulevard in Lantana.
