DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A Delray Beach police officer is under arrest for driving under the influence following a crash over the weekend.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Officer Marques Brown rear-ended a woman Sunday night around 10 p.m. in the 400 block of N. Ocean Blvd.

Brown was off-duty at the time, according to Delray Beach police.

A trooper who responded to the scene said he could smell alcohol on Brown's breath, and Brown's eyes were bloodshot, glassy, he was swaying, and his speech was slurred.

According to his arrest report, Brown admitted to having a few drinks earlier in the night, and refused to take a breathalyzer test.

He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.

Brown, a patrol officer, has been with the Delray Beach Police Department since October 2008. He's now suspended without pay pending the results of FHP's criminal investigation and Delray Beach police's internal affairs investigation.
