DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Police and firefighters came together Sunday for a soccer tournament to benefit a good cause.

Delray Beach Fire Rescue and Miami-Dade County police gathered at the Merritt Park Sunday to have an influence on the community and support a good cause.

“We’re lucky in Florida. We really have a tight group of police and firefighters. Soccer is a kind of a uniting force. To actually have a moment where you can let your guard down in a safe way and even bring your families out and have the community beware of what’s happening, it’s just nice,” said Miami-Dade Police Department Maj. Chris Carothers.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Eric Patrie Cancer Foundation.

Patrie was a Delray Beach firefighter who lost his life after a 16-month battle in 2011 to a cancerous brain tumor.
