DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- — Police say an argument over a football bet turned deadly Saturday night in Delray Beach.
Police said three officers were working a traffic stop around 11 p.m. when they heard several gunshots.
According to Delray Beach police, officers found 35-year-old Willie Byrd with a gunshot wound to his shoulder at 333 SW 6th Avenue.
Police say a Dodge Challenger took a second man, 37-year-old Brandon Grant, to the Bethesda Hospital, where he died a few hours later.
Witnesses said a bet on the Dallas Cowboys/Los Angeles Rams game became heated, and Grant pulled out a gun and shot Byrd. Byrd then fired back, hitting Grant, police said.
Byrd was taken to Delray Medical Center and released.
The shooting remains under investigation.
