Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire to spark inside an apartment at Tuscany Pointe Residences.

According to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, firefighters responded the call on the 2300 block of Post Gardens Way at around 2 p.m. on Friday.

Witnesses on scene described a heavy smoke permeating nearby apartments, forcing some to seek refuge on their balconies.

Bryan Martin, who lives a few doors down from where the fire started, waited on his balcony with his two pets until PBSO deputies showed them out to safety.

"The smoke was just burning my eyes," he said. "I couldn't breathe. I had to hold my breath and run to get out."

Two individuals were treated on scene and shortly released. Six apartments were affected in total but the extent of the damage is still under investigation.
