Man confesses in connection with Palm Beach Gardens hit and run

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Palm Beach Gardens Police say a 51-year-old man turned himself in and confessed to driving the vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian Friday night.

According to police, Ramon Jamie Gonzalez-Pabon says he "panicked" and fled the scene after fatally striking 72-year-old Patrick M. Meehan with his red 2013 Dodge Durango at approximately 11:42 p.m.

Gonzalez-Pabon was placed under arrest and is being charged with Failing to Remain at the Scene of a Traffic Crash involving death.

He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A 72-year-old man was struck and killed in hit and run crash in Palm Beach Gardens Friday night.

Police say Patrick M. Meehan of Palm Beach Gardens was crossing N. Military Trail, just north of PGA Blvd. near the entrance to Garden Square Shops Plaza.

Witnesses say a red or maroon SUV type vehicle traveling southbound on N. Military Trail struck Meehan and then fled the scene, last seen traveling westbound on PGA Blvd.

It is believed there is front-end damage to the vehicle.
