The Martin County School Board are scheduled Tuesday to discuss bus issues involving students who live within 2 miles of their school.

A special school board meeting is being held at 5 p.m. at the board office at 500 SE Ocean Blvd. in Stuart.

This issue caused a lot of confusion at the beginning of the school year.

The Martin County School District decided to reinstate about 90 bus stops that were originally removed for this school year. That impacted about 600 students because their walk to school was not longer considered hazardous.

Many parents were upset and the sheriff also discussed possible safety issues. With new information and input, the school district returned to last year’s bus plans.

Now, board members will evaluate plans for next year.

Also on the agenda, the board will discuss its response to the new School Guardian Law that allows some trained school employees to carry guns if they have proper training from law enforcement.
