MARTIN AND ST. LUCIE COUNTIES, Fla. -- Two wildfires developed Friday afternoon, one in St. Lucie County and one in Martin County.
Port St. Lucie Police evacuated four homes near the Van Kleff wildfire. They are beginning to allow some residents to return, but still have concerns about power lines.
In St. Lucie county, both county and state firefighters are working a 15-acre fire off SE Van Kleff Avenue and SE Bakersfield Street. That fire is now 100 percent contained.
According to the Florida Forest Service (FFS), the St. Lucie County Fire District has extensive hoses set up in the woods for suppression and a firefighting bulldozer is encircling the fire, building firebreaks to defend three homes that are currently threatened.
