Environmental activist Erin Brockovich will be on the Treasure Coast this Sunday.
She has been vocal on social media about the ongoing algae crisis on both coasts of Florida.
Several years ago Irene Gomes, owner of the Driftwood Motel in Jensen Beach, sent an email to Brockovich asking her to come to Martin County.
"Never happened," said Gomes.
Now, with another crisis impacting the St. Lucie River, Brockovich is coming.
"Need somebody like this to help us," said Gomes.
"Bring that national attention to the fact that our polluted waters are not acceptable," said Mark Perry with Florida's Oceanographic Society.
He is a 40-year veteran in fighting Florida's water issues.
He believes this visit brings more national exposure to the issue.
"Person that has been known to champion environmental issues is now taking this on as part of that," said Perry.
