Officials say they have arrested a husband and wife who were trafficking drugs from their Stuart apartment.

Investigators said a Martin County Sheriff's Office SWAT team first arrested 33-year-old Jeffrey Lopez at a gas station and then went to the apartment on NW Spruce Ridge Drive.

Once inside, the sheriff's office said 22-year-old Diamond Lynn Lopez tried to flush bags of cocaine down a toilet and kitchen sink and that she tried to use her four children to shield herself from officials.

“The other thing that was really noteworthy about this case is that there was a substantial amount of fentanyl and crack within 12 inches from a pizza that she was preparing. It was right there in the same proximity of the food that she was feeding the children,” said Sheriff William Snyder.

Investigators said they secured the children and confiscated cocaine, fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and thousands of dollars in cash.

The sheriff's office said the raid was the result of a three-month investigation and was aided by Stuart police, DEA and FDLE.

Jail records indicate Diamond and Jeffrey Lopez face several drug-trafficking charges.
