Vero Beach police are warning residents not to be duped by callers pretending to work for Florida Power and Light.

Police say the callers are threatening to turn off a customer's power if an immediate payment isn't made.

According to police, the scammers ask their targets to go to the Dollar General at 660 Miracle Mile Plaza in Vero Beach and call for further directions.

Police say the calls are not legitimate and urge anyone with questions regarding their Vero Beach Electric account to phone (772) 978-5100 or FP&L at 1-800-226-3545.
