By daylight in Vero Beach it was not uncommon to see palm trees snapped in half.
Palm fronds and limbs littered roadways.
A downed tree made one apartment building inaccessible for a time.
A Publix sign was blown from South Vero Square and fell into a parking lot.
Police and state troopers were forced to direct traffic due to power outages at intersections.
One resident said she was hot due to the lack of air conditioning. “Opened my windows but all I get in is hot air, so,” she said.
Drivers are urged stay off the road to let work crews pick up debris.
