WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A man charged with murder has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in the shooting of his aunt's boyfriend during a family fight in Florida.

The Palm Beach Post reports 29-year-old Curtis Jenkins pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a weapon in the 2017 shooting of 49-year-old barber John Roland.

Roland was shot in the abdomen. He spoke with authorities but didn't mention Jenkins before dying in surgery.

A sheriff's document says Jenkins' aunt gave inconsistent statements, but ultimately said she had asked Jenkins to protect her after changing the locks and putting Roland's clothes outside.

Several witnesses said Roland came in yelling through a back door before he was shot.

Jenkins was sentenced to four years in prison, with credit for two years he's already served in jail.
