WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Four men are under arrest after police say they attempted to force their way into a West Palm Beach residence to rob the victims.
At 10:23 Friday night, the four Hispanic male suspects armed with firearms knocked on the door of the residence, and when the victims answered the door, the men tried to force their way inside.
"For something like that to happen over in this neighborhood, it's really dramatic because we got robbed about 10 years ago here," said neighbor William Burkhardt.
Police say shots were fired by the suspects and one of the victims returned fire, striking a suspect in the leg.
Neighbor Terry Regan is also concerned. "It's not safe, if a stray bullet hits somebody else," said Regan.
The suspects fled in a dark colored vehicle, which was later recovered near the area of Lantana Road and I-95.
The suspects fled on foot in the Lake Osborne Estates area. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office established a perimeter, and with the aid of K9 and the PBSO Aviation Unit, were able to apprehend all four suspects. A shotgun and handgun were recovered from the suspects' vehicle, as well as marijuana.
At his court appearance Sunday morning, no bond was set for one of the suspects, Jose Valentine.
The judge called the case egregious and frightening and reminded Valentine that the charges he faces are punishable by life in prison.
Another suspect, Ramiro Bermudez, is still hospitalized.
