Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed two people Thursday evening in downtown West Palm Beach.

The crash happened at 6:26 p.m. at the intersection of Murray Road and South Flagler Drive.

Investigators said a white 2015 Ferrari California was traveling south on Flagler Drive at a high rate of speed when it struck a tree and caught fire.

According to officials, two men and a 10-year-old were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

One man was confirmed dead at the scene. A second man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The driver and owner of the Ferrari who died was identified as Eric Lavelle, 41, of West Palm Beach.

A front passenger, who also died, was identified as Edward Miller, 46, of West Palm Beach.

The 10-year-old, who was a rear passenger, suffered a broken leg and is expected to make a full recovery

Police said their investigation revealed that the "parties are not acquainted" and that Lavelle often offered rides to people, which may have been the case prior to the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the West Palm Beach Police Department at 561-822-1900.
