Wellington panhandling ban passes first reading

A ban on panhandling in the Village of Wellington is one step closer to reality.

Councilwoman Anne Gerwig says the ordinance passed Tuesday night on the first reading.

However, the council agreed that before a second reading, they want to make sure the ban will hold up legally.

It’s unclear when that reading will be held.

In June 2015, Palm Beach County commissioners adopted an ordinance making it illegal for someone to ask for money from a driver while on a county or state road.
