RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. — A 29-year-old man driving a scooter died in an early morning crash on Australian Avenue on Wednesday.
Riviera Beach police and firefighters responded to the 4:58 a.m. call in the 300 block of Australian Avenue, where an SUV, scooter and car collided.
Preliminary information indicates a southbound Kia SUV, driven by Sanford Jay Magid, 77, of Loxahatchee, turned east on West 3 Street when the scooter, driven by Christian Mauricio Quintero-Badiel, a native of Colombia, struck the rear of the SUV. Quintero-Badiel was thrown from the scooter and hit by a northbound Nissan Altima, driven by Jalexius Bonita Diniasha Cox, 27, of West Palm Beach.
Riviera Beach Fire Rescue took Quintero-Badiel to St. Mary's Trauma Center, where he died from his injuries. Neither of the other drivers, who remained on the scene, was injured.
Quintero-Badiel was wearing dark clothing and not wearing a helmet. Though the scooter was street legal, Quintero-Badiel did not have a driver's license.
