RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. -- A man was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Riviera Beach early Saturday.
According to Riviera Beach Police, at about 3:13 a.m., a police officer on routine patrol observed a black Lexus fleeing the area of the crash on W. Blue Heron Boulevard near President Barack Obama Highway.
A traffic stop was initiated on that vehicle approximately 3 blocks away from the scene of the incident.
The pedestrian identified as Harlis Smith was transported to a local hospital by Riviera Beach Fire Rescue.
Police say he is in critical condition and his injuries are potentially life threatening.
The driver, Shawn Marshall of West Palm Beach, was taken into custody and charged with one count of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash with serious bodily injury.
Marshall was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail. Police say that due to additional circumstances surrounding this investigation, subsequent charges may be filed.
