Police: Student brought loaded gun to St. Luke Catholic Church School

PALM SPRINGS, Fla. — Palm Springs police say a student was caught with a loaded handgun at St. Luke Catholic Church School.

According to the Palm Springs Police Department, officers were dispatched to the school, located at 2896 S. Congress Avenue, around 2 p.m. on Feb. 6.

Police said staff members were notified by students that another student had a loaded handgun in a backpack/bag.

Staff members retrieved the weapon, and the juvenile was taken into custody, according to police.

"We would like to thank the school staff for their quick and professional response to the incident," said Edgar Morley, Public Information Officer for Palm Springs police. "Based upon their swift response, no one was harmed and there is no further threat to the staff or students."

The name and age of the student have not been released.
