PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A Royal Palm Beach man is accused of posing as a woman's grandson and stealing $20,000 from her.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said 19-year-old Liam Emge duped the victim, who lives in Brevard County, through the 'Grandson in jail scam'.

In that type of fraud, a thief pretends to be the victim's grandchild over the phone, and says he or she is in jail and needs money to bond out, according to investigators.

The Sheriff's Office said Emge admitted to receiving the money into his Bank of America account.

Emge is now facing several charges including Grand Theft and Organized Fraud.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said if you receive a call like that, hang up right away and report it to local law enforcement.
