Palm Beach County exploring cost of body cameras

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Palm Beach County official is continuing her push to explore ways to equip deputies with body cameras.

Media outlets report county commissioners on Tuesday instructed county staff to begin talks with Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, who has said he doesn't oppose body cameras but said he'd need more money to purchase them.

Commissioner Priscilla Taylor asked County Administrator Verdenia Baker to meet with Bradshaw and find out how the sheriff would implement the use of body cameras.

Taylor is running for re-election in an Aug. 30 race that has drawn upon residents' frustration with law enforcement. She has previously called for the cameras to be paid for with money from a proposed sales tax increase that will be on the county's November ballots.

Police in Palm Beach Gardens and Delray Beach began using body cameras this year.
