A 17-month-old boy has died after his mother accidentally backed up a pickup truck into the toddler Saturday morning.

The incident happened shortly before 7 a.m. in the 15000 block of 96th Lane in Loxahatchee.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Houston Williams was standing with his father on the side of the road when he wandered off from his father to go to his mother as she was backing up the pickup truck.

The mother, 40-year-old Stephanie Williams, could not see the child and hit him with the rear bumper, knocking him to the road and running him over.

Houston was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
