A swim coach at Park Vista Elementary School in Lake Worth is being recognized for saving a man who was pulled by a rip current.

Lifeguards say Lhisa Almashy dove into the ocean to help the man who was struggling in rough surf.

The Drowning Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County honored the educator's heroism Thursday morning.

"I think the stars were aligned that day with her strong swimming abilities and her knowledge of water, that she was able to save this man's life and we wanted to recognize her for it," said Manager Anna Stewart.

Almashy said her actions are a testament of what teachers can do to change and save lives.
