A Lake Worth teenager coping with a life-threatening illness walked into her dream bedroom on Sunday.

It was all part of a makeover put on by the non-profit organization Special Spaces.

The two-day renovation included a new bedroom and therapy room.

Marisa, 15, was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a rare genetic mutation, when she was 4-months-old.

The syndrome affects her ability to do everyday tasks like walking and talking.  Marisa's family says the makeover has them at a loss for words.

"Everything that we do is for our daughter, and to see so many people come together to do even more for her daughter to help her have such good quality of life.  It means the world to us," said Marissa’s mom Liz Luzzader.

This month is also known as Rett Syndrome Awareness Month.
