Haitian community concerned for loved ones

Delvar Benjamin is keeping a close eye on Hurricane Matthew and trying to stay in touch with family and friends in his home country.

"Sometimes you call, get in touch with someone, sometimes the lines are busy," says Benjamin.

He's concerned for his mom and dad in North Haiti and friends in Port au Prince.

"Every resident of the island for that matter," said Benjamin.

Benjamin just returned from Haiti. He volunteers at New Life for Kids in South Haiti. He says many people in his homeland are still recovering from the 2010 earthquake that devastated the country.

He fears for the thousands of people living in poverty who may not be able to survive a second natural disaster.

"Overtime you have water that's going to be sitting in the streets and canals and the rivers for many days," he said.

Benjamin plans to head back to Haiti as soon as possible.
