A man is in custody in connection with a double homicide last week in Lake Worth.

George Allen McCray, 62, is suspected of killing Shania Copeland, 20, and Leotis Lester, 50, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Copeland and Lester were found with gunshot wounds to the head in the 700 block of Washington Avenue on Friday.

According to a police report, Copeland's family members said the slain woman was the boyfriend of McCray who was recently released from prison.

Copeland was also a friend of Lester and her family said McCray was jealous of the relationship.

The probable cause affidavit said that a woman who lived in the apartment complex where the shooting took place said Copeland once told her that "George" would always tell her "if I can't have you then nobody can."

According to the affidavit, Copeland also told her that "George" was physically abusive towards her.

McCray, who has eight previous felony convictions, faces two counts of first degree murder and possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon.

He was denied bond at a court hearing Wednesday morning.
