An event that helps thousands in South Florida and the Treasure Coast is underway.

It’s the annual Bill Brooks’ Food for Families food drive.

Can goods were being collected Tuesday at the South Florida Fairgrounds.

WPTV is asking donations of non-perishable food such as canned meats, soups, canned fruits and vegetables, dry cereal, rice and pasta.

If you were unable to make it to the fairgrounds, you can donate food at NewsChannel 5 and at participating Seacoast Bank locations.

Last year the drive raised 180,000 pounds of food.

The Twentieth Annual Showcase of Schools also took place at the fairgrounds Tuesday, where students and parents were able to explore 310 programs, 110 schools and 8 new programs available throughout the School District of Palm Beach County to students before applying to programs for the 2017-2018 school year.

Representatives from the schools were available to discuss the educational opportunities offered by the district.
