Cancellations and delays are plaguing America's airports - giving travelers an unexpected extension to their Christmas vacations.
Nearly 2,000 flights are delayed as a result of nasty weather around the country - more than 1,000 have been canceled.
It's affecting folks flying in and out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport.
Some we spoke to have been waiting hours to make it back home.
Lannette Porter just got back from a holiday cruise that sailed out of South Florida.
"Our flight has been scheduled for weeks, and we had a 3:10 flight," Porter says.
That's 3:10 - the day before.
Almost 24 hours later, Porter and her friends are still grounded.
Her luck seemed to turn around in the middle of our interview, as her friends were able to book the group on a late flight.
"It is a big relief," she says. "I'm so homesick...I'm ready to get home."
Meanwhile, Palm Beach County residents dealing with storms in the Midwest are hoping for a similar outcome.
We spoke to Nancy Frey, who is flying out of Omaha, Nebraska.
"We're trying to get back to Ft. Lauderdale this evening," she tells us.
She says the city has seen two storms in just the past 5 days.
With even more snow in the forecast, she's hoping to make it home as soon as possible.
"We've been trying to schedule or reschedule our flights to an earlier time with no luck, everything is completely booked," Frey says.
"Hopefully we'll be back in the warm sunshine soon."
Palm Beach International Airport was busy this morning, but travelers said they did not experience any flight delays. Some even said they landed early.
But that was not the case for Ralph Martinez yesterday while he was flying home from New York. “Sat on a runway, Martinez said. “I fell asleep and the next thing I knew I was up in the air. Sat on the runway for an hour and a half.”
This morning Martinez was back picking up family.
"My kids came in today for the New Year," Martinez explained. "Christmas in New York, New Years in Florida; not bad."
Brother and sister Janie and Lance DiNatale also flew in today from New York. The only traveling hurdle they ran into was packing for a warmer climate.
"Packing was kind of hard because in my mind I'm cold," Janie DiNatale said. "But you just have to throw all the stuff that you basically put away in your suitcase."
They plan to hit the beach and golf while they enjoy our 80 plus degree temperatures, but worry about the line of storms stretching across the country impacting their flight home.
"I've heard about bad weather across the country, but we weren't expecting any delays, but maybe when we go back," said Lance DiNatale. "I'm a little nervous I'm in high school and I have school next Monday so hopefully I'll get back in time."
Back on the other side of the luggage carousel, Martinez is not worrying about his family having to stay a few days longer due to weather.
"I hope so," Martinez said. "I hope so. It would be my pleasure."
