The nation's current craft brewery boom is driven by a slew of independent-minded beer lovers that are often proud of the city, town or even neighborhood they represent. Recent sales statistics released by the Brewers Association, a nonprofit trade group, ranked the top 50 craft breweries in terms of beer sales volume in 2014.
In terms of geographic location, a slight majority of the top 50 are located west of the Mississippi River. With 11 in the top 50, California is the state with most on the list; Colorado is second with six, followed by Oregon and New York, tied with four each.
