A ball boy lived up to his job title Thursday at the Australian Open.

The young man was defenseless, hands behind his back, when Feliciano López served a 122 mph (196 kph) tennis ball. Adrian Mannarino whiffed, the ball bounced and – it made contact:

The match was stopped while tennis players and officials attended to the boy, who left to applause from the crowd.
