We’ve counted down the best music and movies, the most epic weather and the whoa-ist web videos of 2014. But where’s the love for video games?

Today, video games have bigger budgets than many Hollywood movies. The top game of the year, Grand Theft Auto V, banked $2 billion since its release in 2013 – about what “Titanic" made in 1997.

Here are the most critically-acclaimed games of 2014, according to MetaCritic:

  1. Grand Theft Auto V (Playstation 4, Xbox One)
  2. The Last of Us, remastered (Playstation 4)
  3. Super Smash Bros. (Nintendo Wii U)
  4. Bayonetta 2 (Nintendo Wii U)
  5. Dark Souls II (Playstation, Xbox, PC)
  6. Diablo III: Ultimate Evil (Playstation 4)
  7. Rayman Legends (Playstation 4)
  8. Velocity 2X (Playstation Vita)
  9. Fez (Playstation 4)
  10. Shovel Knight (Nintendo 3DS)

  2. Destiny (3.8 million)
  3. Grand Theft Auto V (3.3 million)
  4. Madden NFL 15 (3.9 million)
