Semi carrying honeybees rolls on Loveland Pass

A semi truck carrying honeybees rolled over on Loveland Pass Sunday morning, forcing crews to close the westbound lanes for several hours.

The semi rolled a little after 10 a.m., according to Trooper Tim Sutherland with the Colorado State Patrol.

The bees are loose but contained, Sutherland said.

A bee expert was at the scene, but the bees were "upset," Sutherland said.

It was expected to take until about 3 p.m. for crews to bring in the necessary equipment to capture the bees.

The truck driver was reportedly hurt, but police didn't have information about the extent of the injuries.

The damaged truck may not be moved until Monday morning because the owners of the bees are from South Dakota and are driving to the area to get them.
