More than 170,000 whimsical Betsey Johnson rechargeable power banks sold nationwide are being recalled because they can overheat and pose a fire hazard.
The firm that sells the portable chargers, Daniel M. Friedman & Associates, has received three reports of the chargers overheating, including one house fire that caused up to $150,000 in property damage.
No injuries have been reported, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The universal rechargeable power banks were sold nationwide at stores including Burlington, Ross and Kohl's from Nov. 2016 through Jan. 2019 for about $25. The recalled chargers came in a variety of colors and shapes, including a unicorn head, a cat with sunglasses, and a rainbow between two clouds.
Consumers should stop using the power banks immediately and contact Daniel M. Friedman & Associates to arrange to return the product for a full refund.
