MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Police in South Carolina have arrested a woman they say bit off part of a Wal-Mart worker's finger during an altercation.

Local media outlets cited a police report as stating security officials at a Myrtle Beach Wal-Mart tried to stop a woman Sunday who they say was concealing merchandise.

According to police, the woman punched one worker and then bit another worker's finger.

A customer tried calling 911 on her cell phone, but the woman took it and grabbed the customer by the hair, authorities say.

Police say officers stopped the suspect after she fled to a van outside but its path was blocked.

Police say 23-year-old Carolynn Wright was jailed on $51,000 bond and faces assault and battery charges. It's not known if Wright has an attorney.
