The temperature reached 112 degrees in Phoenix, Arizona, on Monday — and it's expected to get hotter.
The region is under an extreme heat warning for the next seven days. ABC15 television station in Phoenix reported lows would only drop to the low- to mid-80s, providing little relief for locals. Highs this week will average in the 110-115 degrees range.
People are warned not to walk pets between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. as the sidewalks and roadways will be hotter than the air temperature, ABC15 said.
The Southeast is hitting records highs this week, too. According to The Weather Channel, Charlotte, North Carolina resident may see triple-digit highs, and heat advisories have been issued in both Carolinas as well as Georgia. Northern Florida is hitting record high temps for this time of year, too.
The extreme heat and humidity will stick around throughout the week.
