The World Health Organization announced today there have been more than 4,000 deaths recorded in the current Ebola outbreak, according to a report from The Associated Press.

Ebola virus disease has spread throughout West Africa in the past six months in what has been called the largest and most severe outbreak of it in history. The WHO was first notified of the virus in Guinea.

The three most affected countries are Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Any people flying to the United States from West Africa are being screened at airports, and are having their temperatures taken there.

On Thursday, some airline workers who clean cabins went on strike out of fear of being exposed to the deadly disease.

Earlier this week, the WHO confirmed a person in Spain has Ebola, marking the first human-to-human case of it outside of West Africa. In the U.S., a man who contracted Ebola in West Africa had been isolated in a Dallas, Texas hospital.

He died on Wednesday.

The U.S. has about 350 troops in West Africa providing support to health care workers. It is expected to deploy more throughout the next two months.
