(CNN) -- Sen. Kamala Harris says she encourages speculation about potential running mates. Especially if those conversations put her at the top of the ticket.

While campaigning in New Hampshire on Wednesday, the 2020 Democratic candidate was asked if she's tired of being labeled "the perfect running mate."

"If people want to speculate about running mates, I encourage that, because I think that Joe Biden would be a great running mate," Harris, a California Democrat, answered.

"As vice president, he's proven that he knows how to do the job," she said, adding that there's "certainly a lot of other candidates that would make, for me, a very viable and interesting vice president."

Harris and Biden are vying for the Democratic presidential nomination in a massive field of 22 candidates in total.

Senior members of the Congressional Black Caucus recently told Politico that Biden-Harris would make a "dream ticket" if Biden remains atop the polls and if Harris is not the nominee.

The latest CNN poll conducted by SSRS after Biden's campaign announcement showed him with a commanding lead over the field, with 39% of Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents saying he's their top choice for the nomination, across gender and race.

The same poll showed Harris at 5%, but leading the field at 23% among those polled who they'd most like to hear about.
