"Gilmore Girls" star Edward Herrmann died at age 71, according to multiple reports.
In the hit television series Herrmann played Richard Gilmore, the father of Lorelai Gilmore, who is played by Lauren Graham. "Gilmore Girls" aired from 2000-07.
Herrmann had an extensive acting career that included roles in "The Lost Boys", "Richie Rich", and "Grey's Anatomy" and "M*A*S*H" among others.
He recently appeared in episodes of "The Good Wife" and the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street" starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
In 1999, he hosted "History's Lost and Found" on The History Channel and has been the voice on many specials for The History Channel.
TMZ reported Herrmann died in a hospital in New York on Wednesday morning.
